Licensed Practical Nurses and Registered Nurses are the two categories
of nursing professionals involved in the assessment, planning,
implementation and evaluation of nursing care.
LPNs provide nursing care to individuals, families and groups. They
study from the same body of nursing knowledge as RNs focusing on the
foundational knowledge. Through their initial education, LPNs develop
the knowledge, skill, judgment and ability to contribute in all phases
of the continuum of care from prevention to acute treatment and
palliative care. LPNs in PEI work under the direction of an RN or other
duly qualified health care practitioner and assume full responsibility
for their own practice.
