Child Protection Social Workers play a critical role in our community, protecting those who are unable to protect themselves – the children. Child protection is a very rewarding field of social work practice. Child Protection Social Workers conduct child protection investigations, develop clinical assessments, construct case plans in accordance with the need to ensure children’s safety and enhance parenting functioning, provide direct service to children in care of the Director of Child Protection, assess and support foster families, and are involved in adoptions and birth parent counselling. Child Protection provides the greatest employment opportunities within the field of social work on PEI.

high school preparation: Academic high school diploma with emphasis on English, Biology and Mathematics. Volunteer work experience is an asset.
academic requirements: A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work (BSW) is the entry degree for the field; a Master’s Degree (MSW) is necessary for more advanced positions. A Bachelor’s Degree is often required, prior to entry into a BSW program. Dalhousie requires students to have completed 5 full university credits prior to applying for the BSW program.
